Principals Welcome

Kia orana tatou katoatoa

Welcome to Apii Te Uki Ou! We are located on the seaside in Ngatangiia, on Rarotonga’s South East coast.
We are a private school formed over twenty years ago as an ECE in a garage and based on the Montessori model of education. After several moves due to rapid expansion we are now an ECE (2.5 years old) – Year 8 full primary school and have 202 students, and a full time staff of 19.

Our roll is made up as follows:
Boys: 96
Girls: 106

Cook Island ethnicity: 59%
NZ European: 21%
Other ethnicity: 20%

We pride ourselved on our ‘Inclusive Education’ special character and have several students with high physical and cognitive needs, each with a full time teacher aide.

The school enjoys unlimited internet capability, due to very generous support from the Ministry of Education and Bluesky, and the Board of Governors are focused on consolidating and enhancing our 21st century learning environment through generously funding our hard and software and infrastructure to enable IT integrated teaching and learning programmes.

Currently, all of our classroom teachers are New Zealand or Australian trained teachers and our teaching and learning programmes are always of the highest standard.

We enjoy wonderful support from our parent, and wider, community and fundraising provides a significant portion of our resource funding.

Our Te Reo and Cultural programmes are strong and we continually feature strongly in all interschool or community initiated cultural events.

We are actively involved in a wide range of sporting activities, and the interschool competitions are always hard, but fairly, fought!

We are very strongly involved in the community, with our Rent-a-Plate initiative is a feature of our recycling and sustainability endeavours.

Do drop by and visit if you’re ever in the neighbourhood, you’re always welcome!

Meitaki maata e kia manuia!
