Academic Achievement
Te Uki Ou School - Producing smart 'Cookies' batch after batch

Focusing on academic achievement within a safe and happy learning environment is our core task here at Apii Te Uki Ou.

This is best captured by our Board of Governors motto – ‘creating children that are passionate learners, effective communicators and independent thinkers who become responsible Cook Islanders’.

At ATUO teachers focus on meeting the learning needs of each child with specific focus on these following core curriculum area:

  • Literacy – Oral, Reading, Writing & Spelling.
  • Numeracy – Basic Facts and all Mathematics Strands.
  • Rich Themes – Integrated ‘rich themes’ that are authentic and connected to the world our students learn and live in.
  • E-Learning & Technology – Equipping our students with the capacity to solve problems and gain understanding using 21st century e learning strategies and technology.

Our goal is that all students leave Apii Te Uki Ou with literacy & numeracy levels to that of typical New Zealand and Australian students of a similar age.

For students who do require learning support or who have high needs we are currently the only school in Rarotonga with an additional New Zealand trained and experienced teacher who co-ordinates and teaches our Learning Support Programme.

Our achievement results for 2016 were as follows:
Reading: 82% of our students are AT or ABOVE expected achievement levels.
Writing: 78% of our students are AT or ABOVE expected achievement levels.
Maths: 78% of our students are AT or ABOVE expected achievement levels.

For 2017 are Annual Educational Goals are to reach 85% AT or ABOVE across the board.
